Yuto Obata is a Japanese composer based in Helsinki. 

He creates finely detailed acoustic music that explores the hidden potential of traditional instruments. His works have been performed by leading ensembles such as Norrbotten NEO and Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, and featured at international festivals including UNM and the Baltic Sea Festival.

I wrote a new article on Mustapiste.fi, an experimental art reviews platform, about my current thoughts on how the borderlines between composers and players can be blurred through collaboration.

2台のスネアドラムとアンサンブルのための「Scrim (2023)」がフィンランド国営放送ラジオ局Yle Radioで放送されました。（アーカイブは放送後１年間視聴できます）

My chamber orchestra piece Scrim for Two Snare Drums and Ensemble (2023) will be broadcast on Yle Radio 1 in a program about the UNM Festival. The broadcast will remain available in the archive for one year.

1997年、埼玉県生まれ。2020年、国立音楽大学演奏・創作学科作曲専修、2024年、フィンランドのシベリウス 音楽院作曲科修士課程を修了。これまで作曲を台信遼、Veli-Matti Puumala各氏に、音楽理論を今村央子、佐藤岳晶、吉田真梨、Olli Väisälä各氏に、ピアノを井上郷子、 Junio Kimanen各氏に師事。フィンランド作曲家協議会（Suomen Säveltäjät ry）会員。

Yuto Obata is a Japanese composer based in Helsinki, Finland.

Obata’s music features delicate acoustics, aiming to expand the sonic possibilities of acoustic instruments and create a unique sonority. His works have been performed by international ensembles such as Norrbotten NEO and the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra.

Obata completed his Bachelor's degree at Kunitachi College of Music (Tokyo) in 2020 and his Master's degree at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki) in 2024. He studied composition under Ryo Dainobu and Veli-Matti Puumala.

His recent chamber works were performed in the UNM Festival in Helsinki in August and the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, Sweden, in September 2025.  

Obata has furthered his studies through masterclasses with composers such as Liza Lim, Fabien Lévy, Mauro Lanza, Peter Kerkelov, Toshio Hosokawa, Chaya Czernowin, and Irene Galindo.
